I can totally see some of the images in the movie haunting a kid for years. The movie isn't afraid to show some fairly disturbing things for a kids movie, such as sucking the life juices out of creatures, allusions to genocide, slavery, falling into pits of lava, etc. One predictable thing for example, was how the Mystics and Skeksis were somehow bonded or mirror images of one another, but I still thought it was a cool idea that I don't think I've seen done very often. It was very predictable but for an old children's movie, I don't think you can really fault it too much for that.
